Faculty Biography

Zahra Smith is the Director of the Intellectual Property Venture Clinic and a Practitioner-in-Residence at the Milton A. Kramer Law Clinic Center. She received her JD from Emory University, where she was Director of the Emory University School of Law’s Legal Clinic.

Previously, Smith practiced intellectual property law in New York City at Greenberg Traurig, LLP and as Counsel for an e-commerce and technology start-up. Smith’s practice has included matters related to the protection, commercialization and defense of intellectual property, the development of intellectual property strategy, as well as the management of various technology transactions.

Smith has counseled early stage ventures and Fortune 500 companies on maintaining robust intellectual property portfolios. In 2016, Smith was selected as a SuperLawyers Rising Star for her work in intellectual property. Smith is licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and previously practiced as a civil engineer.
