Student Health Law Association
SHLA provides a forum for students to further their interest in health law and policy.
Case School of Law is a leader in health law education. To supplement classroom learning and journal experiences, the students formed the Student Health Law Association (SHLA). SHLA is dedicated to the professional development of the students, faculty and alumni of Case in all areas of health law and is committed to the education, public discourse, and critical analysis of health law issues.
SHLA works closely with the Law-Medicine Center to provide an intellectually stimulating environment for students, faculty, attorneys, judges, healthcare professionals, and the Case and Cleveland communities to discuss topics ranging from bioethics to corporate health care issues. In past years, SHLA has held lunchtime speaker and movie events featuring scholars and other commentators on health law issues. For example, we recently had a representative from the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland, who spoke about his organizations view on health care reform. In the Spring 2009 semester, we held a speaker event featuring faculty from the Schools of Law and Medicine who spoke about medical and legal issues affecting the "Octo-Mom" controversy.
SHLA has also held professional networking events in collaboration with the school's Career Services Office, charity events for the benefit of local nursing homes, and social events.
