Our Students & Programs
Our school. Case Western Reserve University School of Law is one of the nation’s leading law schools, characterized by its rigorous and diverse curriculum, strong student body, superb faculty, and outstanding resources. A private law school founded in 1892, Case School of Law has been ABA-accredited since 1923, and is a charter member of the Order of the Coif and Association of American Law Schools. The school offers curricular concentrations in a variety of areas, including our top ten-ranked health law program, and our nationally-regarded international law program. Other concentrations include law, technology, and the arts; business organizations; litigation; public law; and criminal law.

Our students. Our law school community has over 700 students enrolled in the J.D. program. Over half of our students have taken time off between college and law school. Before beginning their legal studies, they have worked in diverse professional careers, such as doctors, journalists, stock analysts, CPAs, teachers, biologists, architects, engineers, nurses, and computer programmers. They come to Case Western from well over 300 undergraduate institutions, approximately 45 states, and over 10 foreign countries. They bring intellectual talent, motivation, and live experience to our law school community.

Our curriculum. Over the past seven years we have introduced over 130 new courses, seven academic concentrations, two additional dual-degree programs, four new Centers of Excellence, and our ground-breaking CaseArc Integrated Lawyering Skills Program. We have developed and implemented major reforms in our curriculum and education program driven by our mission: to prepare our graduates to be leaders in the practice of law, public and community service, and commerce. The result has been the development of an aggressive and visionary curriculum, designed to provide students with flexibility in their selection of upper-class electives. The CaseArc Integrated Lawyering Skills Program combines experientially-based instruction in fundamental lawyering skills such as fact-gathering, legal research and writing, counseling, and negotiation with the traditional legal analysis instruction. Through this integration of traditional Socratic method and experiential learning, the CaseArc program uniquely prepares our students to practice law.

The curriculum at Case Western Reserve University School of Law also includes the opportunity to participate in Law Review or one of four other academic journals, as well as clinical and externship opportunities.
