Establish a support system for yourself. When you have a problem that is impacting your schoolwork, remember that the Deans, staff and faculty are there to help you. Don’t be afraid to approach them. Finding a group of friends that you can be comfortable around is key. Think of activities that can help you reduce your stress level, and find a routine that works for you. Above all, always look for opportunities to gain legal experience, and never forget what motivated you to go to law school.
I am originally from Waipahu, Hawaii. After earning a B.A. in Social Science with a Concentration in Psychology and a Certificate in Substance Abuse and Addiction Studies from the University of Hawaii West Oahu, I accepted an offer to attend the Case Western Reserve University School of Law to participate in their stellar Health Law program. While the first year of law school is difficult, creating a support system and routine can help make the process much easier. The Deans, staff, and faculty are supportive, and more than willing to help you where they are able to. Having a group of friends that you are comfortable around, makes studying more productive, and enjoyable. As soon as you are able to, establish a routine that allows time for you to study, get a decent amount of sleep, and engage in activities that can help you reduce your stress level. Never allow yourself to lose confidence in your skills. Pat yourself on the back for the subjects that you are good at, and work diligently to improve the areas that you need work on. Above all, take every opportunity to get legal experience, and never forget what motivated you to law school. Since coming to Case Western Reserve University School of Law, I have worked as an intern for the Departmental Appeals Board in the Medicare Appeals Council, a research assistant for Professor Maxwell J. Mehlman, and as a legal extern for University Hospitals. I have also had the opportunity to pursue my goal of helping veterans by grouping together with other students, organizations, and the law school. As long as you have the drive, it is possible here.

Case is on the rise.
We are one of the only law schools in the country to have experienced any rise in median LSATs last year, and ours rose a whopping 2 points. Our university, ranked #37th by U.S. News & World Report, is attracting record numbers of applicants.
