An Engaging, Rigorous Curriculum
Our students have the opportunity to learn about the law from our accomplished faculty in a collegial environment. We offer a legal education that combines theory with practice and a curriculum of more than 200 courses and eight Academic Centers. We provide extensive opportunities for individualized instruction with 65% of our upper-level courses enrolling fewer than 25 students. Our students can choose to specialize in seven areas of concentration and can participate in ten dual degree and certificate programs.
A Few CWRU Highlights
- The field of health law essentially began with the creation of the Law-Medicine Center in 1953, making it the oldest health law program in the country.
- The CaseArc Integrated Lawyering Skills Program, one of the first and most intensive practical lawyering skills programs in the country, remains in the forefront of a revolutionary new style of law school instruction. This is a very ambitious, comprehensive skills training that begins in the first year and integrates practical lawyering skills training throughout students' legal education.
- Our faculty were the first in the nation to establish an International Tribunal Externship Program. Students have the opportunity to undertake a semester-long internship at one of the five international criminal tribunals.
- The School of Law was a pioneer in educating African-Americans and women for the bar, admitting its first African-American student in 1892 and women in 1918. We continue to value diversity in our community.
A Supportive Environment
We believe that the rigors and challenges of law school are best met in a supportive and welcoming environment. We provide small class sizes, extensive opportunities for faculty interaction, and individualized student counseling in our award-winning facility. We are located on the CWRU campus in University Circle, one of the largest concentrations of educational and cultural institutions in the world, with ample and affordable housing available in the many nearby neighborhoods.
Outstanding Career Services
We are committed to being proactive in the legal employment market. We are one of a small number of law schools with five full time attorneys devoted to counseling and developing job opportunities for students. As a result, the employment rate for our graduates has consistently exceeded the national average and our alumni work in key positions in every state in the nation and worldwide.
