Professor Pollis joined the faculty in 2008 as a Visiting Assistant Professor and was appointed as an Assistant Professor effective July 2011. Before coming to Case, Professor Pollis practiced law for 18 years in the litigation department of the Cleveland-based law firm of Hahn Loeser & Parks LLP. In private practice he focused extensively on appellate and general-commercial litigation. He has argued in numerous state and federal appellate courts across the country and has had two cases in the United States Supreme Court. He also has extensive trial experience, amassing
verdicts
totaling over $560 million since 2003, as well as experience in class-action litigation on the defense side.
Professor Pollis is certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as an appellate-law specialist. He lectures frequently on appellate-law issues and co-authored (with Judge Mark Painter) the last four editions of
OHIO APPELLATE PRACTICE (Thomson/West)
. His recent article,
The Need for Non-Discretionary Interlocutory Appellate Review in Multidistrict Litigation
, was published in Fordham Law Review in March 2011.
Professor Pollis teaches in the Civil Litigation Clinic in the Milton A. Kramer Law Clinic Center, hearkening back to his roots as a law student at the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau. In 2011 Professor Pollis supervised two students
who won a $1.1 million jury verdict
for one of the Clinic’s clients. He has also taught Appellate Practice and served as a faculty advisor to moot-court teams.
