Graduates of our Law Schoo are welcome to visit and use the library. Although the Law School's entrances are locked after 6:30 p.m. weekdays and all day on weekends, the library remains open to the public. A security guard on duty is available to provide access.
Access to Premier Online Research Tools for Recent Graduates
If you are a recent graduate who has not yet taken the bar, you may continue to access Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg and Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction resources (CALI) through the July bar exam. More information about alumni access to these services
Library Cards and Databases for Alumni
Alumni may apply for a library card and use an active CWRU username and password to access select research databases. These resources are available to you at any time, regardless of how long ago you may have graduated from law school.
Online Application for an Alumni Library Card
We allow on-site borrowing of up to 10 books at a time from our circulating collection and 5 books at a time from the OhioLINK & SearchOhio circulating collection. Circulating materials do not include:
- All or parts of multi-volume sets (e.g. statutes, casebooks or digests)
- Materials on Reserve
- Materials located in the Reference section
- AV materials
You have access to our law library’s reference desk (216-368-5206 / firstname.lastname@example.org) for research and other library assistance. The university’s [U]Tech Service Desk (368-HELP/368-4357) also provides unlimited, ongoing service to alumni with technology questions.
Our public workstations and law databases in the library, including LexisNexis Academic, are available to you free of charge. In addition, we have one workstation dedicated to Bloomberg BNA/Patron Access for Bloomberg Law. Our library has a free, unsecured guest network for internet access inside our building.
Free Access to HeinOnline Law Database
You have limited access to an interdisciplinary, alumni-licensed database known as HeinOnline
. It contains more than 1,700 law and law-related journals with a broader range of coverage than Westlaw or LexisNexis combined. ABA Law Library Collection Periodicals contains digital access to over 100 ABA-related periodicals, including 44 periodicals previously available only to ABA section members, and provides access to current volumes of included periodicals, covering all subject areas of American law.
