Research Support

Borrowing & Interlibrary Loan

Our holdings of print and electronic books and journals are included in the online campus-wide catalog. ( We maintain a core collection of legal monographs and serials, both in print and electronic format. There are more extensive collections in faculty research areas, including international law, business law, law and medicine and intellectual property.

Our participation in the statewide
OhioLINK (insert link) network allows direct access to borrow circulating print resources from other libraries throughout the state, as well as enhancing the array of online databases and other electronic resources that we provide. Through additional contacts with other libraries in the U.S. and abroad, we can help you acquire access to research materials beyond those available in the full OhioLINK network.

Determining if an Item is Available

First, find the book you are looking for in the catalog and note the book’s status. If its status is available and the item is not marked as law reference, then the item may be checked out. If the item’s location is law reserve or law class reserve, you may only use the item in-house. There are exceptions. Please ask about access to the item at the circulation desk.

Borrowing Non-CWRU Material

If an item you are looking for is not available because it has been checked out or it not in the library’s collection, you may directly order any available item through OhioLINK [insert link back to OhioLINK tab on main website]. A request button is located in each record. When requesting an item for delivery, you must select CWRU from the pull-down menu. Then enter your regular CWRU username (the portion of your email address before and password. You may select delivery to any library on campus, including our law library.

You may request books that are available neither on campus nor via OhioLINK by placing an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) [] request. Journal articles not available on campus or in electronic format can also be ordered via ILL. You may place and track your own ILL requests using the ILL management system. For best service, contact a reference librarian to determine availability of a resource before placing an ILL request in ILLiad, or refer to this guide. [LINK:]
