Judge Neil Gorsuch
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch visited Case Western Reserve University School of Law in April 2016 and delivered a lecture after Justice Scalia's passing. As his confirmation hearings began, our experts discussed Gorsuch's potential impact on the court.
A federal circuit judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit, Gorsuch's speech was titled, “Of Lions and Bears, Judges and Legislators: Some Reflections on the Legacy of Justice Scalia.” The talk explored Scalia’s career after his death.
The Sumner Canary Lecture, which Gorsuch delivered, was established in 1979 by Nancy Halliday Canary to honor her late husband, Judge Sumner Canary a judge on the Ohio Court of Appeals for the 8th District, US Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio and 1927 graduate of the law school. It is one of over a dozen endowed lecture series that bring distinguished jurists, leading practitioners and prestigious academics to the law school each year.
