My experience as a law student
Matt Cuzzocrea talks about being a first-year student in law school.
I had so many unanswered questions about law school before I arrived at Case Western Reserve University School of Law. How much time would I have every day for myself? Would I have time to make friends? Would it be difficult to balance my personal relationships with school? Would I no longer have a social life outside of class? Would I enjoy living in Ohio? Well, I honestly can’t say that I have developed any truly definitive answers to these questions at this point But, one thing that I know for sure is that I have been pleasantly surprised with my experience at CWRU so far.
For starters, the law school administration and faculty have made me feel at home. From the beginning of introduction week to the third week of class, I have felt welcomed with open arms and ears from all of my professors and law school administrators. It is easy to see how dedicated the faculty is to our legal education after attending only a few weeks of classes. Likewise, it is also easy to see how we are all becoming part of something special after these first few months. I look forward to continually learning from the people that make this place great over the coming years.
On a more personal note, I do want to say that I have come up with one quasi-definitive answer to one of these questions--it is possible to have a social life outside of school. Over the past few weeks, I have managed to meet some incredible people from across the world, some of whom have really interesting backgrounds. I’ve shared worries with them, and vice versa; but, through these conversations, I have started to develop a lot of respect for many people here. We are all in this experience together, and through all of the worries that we collectively share, we will hopefully come out united and ready to face the legal community together. I would tell all first-years to keep an open-mind about the law school process, and don’t be afraid to immerse yourselves in everything that this law school offers us. I had many personal doubts before coming to Ohio, but I’m happy to say that keeping an open-mind about everything thus far has allowed me to begin to strike a healthy personal and academic life balance.

Footnote:
Case is on the rise.
We are one of the only law schools in the country to have experienced any rise in median LSATs last year, and ours rose a whopping 2 points. Our university, ranked #37th by U.S. News & World Report, is attracting record numbers of applicants.
