Alumnus makes significant contribution through new endowed chair
The law school is the grateful recipient of the Johan Verheij Memorial Professorship, created by Richard Verheij, Class of '83, in honor of his late father. This wonderful gift will be an essential asset as the law school continues to grow to greatness. The inaugural holder of the Verheij Chair will be Jonathan Adler, director of the Center for Business Law and Regulation, who specializes in environmental, administrative, and constitutional law. Professor Adler commented, "It's a tremendous honor to be named as the inaugural holder of this chair. As a school we are tremendously grateful for Mr. Verheij's generosity and longstanding support of the school and our work."
"I believe in the ethic that to those whom much is given, much is expected," said Verheij, who is one of the largest contributors to the law school's Annual Fund and has previously established an endowment to support the Center for Business Law and Regulation. "The law school and its great faculty provided me with a solid foundation for establishing what has been in many ways a rewarding career that has spanned challenging areas from tobacco litigation and regulation to cutting edge environmental compliance."
Verheij is former executive vice president and general counsel for UST Inc. in Greenwich, CT, where he served for nearly 20 years. Most recently he was senior vice president, general counsel and secretary to Magnum Coal Company in Charleston, West Virginia and is currently a consultant to Patriot Coal Corporation (parent company to Magnum).

Case is on the rise.
We are one of the only law schools in the country to have experienced any rise in median LSATs last year, and ours rose a whopping 2 points. Our university, ranked #37th by U.S. News & World Report, is attracting record numbers of applicants.
