Students who have participated in the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Summer Legal Academy
The Summer Legal Academy, now in its seventh year, introduces promising minority students to the legal profession through a two-week, full day intensive law institute. This year’s program was held from June 13 to June 24. Over 21 students participated in this summer’s program and were seniors at the following high schools: Aurora, Beaumont, Bedford, Brush, Cleveland Heights, Collinwood, Elyria, Gilmour, Jane Addams, Shaker Heights, Shaw, St. Martin de Porres, and Warrensville Heights.
Area attorneys, judges and professors worked with the students over the two week period. The students interviewed witnesses, argued a motion to suppress, advocated for their client in a pre-trial, and represented the prosecution or the defense in a mock trial on June 23. The goal of the program is reduce the racial inequity in membership of the local bar and bench by introducing minority students to their potential to succeed in college and law school.

Footnote:
Case is on the rise.
We are one of the only law schools in the country to have experienced any rise in median LSATs last year, and ours rose a whopping 2 points. Our university, ranked #37th by U.S. News & World Report, is attracting record numbers of applicants.
