CWRU Mock Trial Team wins the American Association for Justice's Student Trial Advocacy Competition
The members of the Law School’s Jonathan M. Ault Mock Trial Team, Joe Medici (3L), James Pasch (3L), Alix Emerson (3L), and Zach Smigiel (2L), defeated 15 other teams to win the American Association for Justice's Student Trial Advocacy Competition Regionals held at the Cleveland Justice Center Feb. 27-28. Additionally, a second team of Christina Niro (3L), Carrie Wells (3L), Patrick Hakes (2L), and Ashley Lee (2L) advanced to the semi-final round after finishing second overall in the preliminary rounds.
The teams also includes alternates Jennifer Hadley (2L) and Pete Dalpiaz (2L).
Throughout the competition, Case Western teams defeated teams from Cleveland State, Washington and Lee, University of Virginia, and Liberty. In the final round of competition, Medici, Pasch, Emerson, and Smigiel unanimously beat the defending AAJ regional champion, University of Akron. CWRU’s winning team will represent the law school at the 2010 AAJ STAC National Competition in New Orleans, Louisiana March 18th-21st.
This year's AAJ team was coached by an alumnus of the Mock Trial Team, Markus Apelis. Professor Yuri Linetsky also coaches the mock trial team and directs the mock trial program.
