Jonathan M. Ault team wins 10 of 12 trials at Case Classic Mock Trial Competition held at Justice Ce
The law school's Jonathan M. Ault Mock Trial Team won 10 of 12 trials at the Case Classic Mock Trial Competition held Nov. 13-14 at the Justice Center in downtown Cleveland. The team competed against mock trial teams from Cleveland Marshall, Akron, Toledo, and Cincinnati. More than 60 law students gathered to litigate State v. Sloan, a criminal insurance fraud case.
CWRU fielded 12 teams, and at the end of the day won 10 trials – four as prosecutors and six as defenders. Of this competition-leading tally, five wins were by a unanimous vote of the practicing lawyers in attendance. This total ties the 10 wins that Case recorded at this regional competition last year. Meanwhile, Cleveland State won two trials, Akron and Toledo each won one trial, and Cincinnati was completely shut out. Only Cleveland State joined CWRU's five unanimous verdicts with one of their own.
Alix Emerson earned the competition’s highest personal honor by taking home the title of “Case’s Best Litigator.” The judges she litigated in front of unanimously held her to be the best in the room, and ultimately handed her team one of Case’s 10 wins. If the Classic’s results are any indication, the team’s successes are only just beginning. In February, the team will compete in the Texas Young Lawyers Association’s National Trial Competition, the American Association of Justice Competition, and the Allegany Competition.
The Ault Mock Trial team is comprised of 13 3L students, 11 2L students and coaches Yuri Linetksy, Kristy Wedell, and Mike Pascoe. To join the team, members survived a competitive, two round tryout process, during which over 50 students were turned away.
Dean Entin and Professors Giannelli, Nance, Robertson, and Robert Wagner were judges at the competition.

Footnote:
Case is on the rise.
We are one of the only law schools in the country to have experienced any rise in median LSATs last year, and ours rose a whopping 2 points. Our university, ranked #37th by U.S. News & World Report, is attracting record numbers of applicants.
