Alumnus and Partner at NY firm speaks to international law students
Alumnus Craig Chapman '80, Partner at Sidley Austin, LLP, recently spoke to ninety nine 1L students in Professor Michael Scharf’s International Law Perspectives course.
Chapman has been a partner in the New York office of Sidley Austin, LLP since 1992, where he currently practices. He practices on an international platform with a focus on debt and equity securities offerings and general corporate matters. Chapman is also actively involved in the development and execution of cross-border and complex financial products. In addition to practicing in New York City, Chapman has practiced in Sydney, Australia; Tokyo, Japan; and London, England. Professor Scharf said "it was fantastic to have such an accomplished alumni provide my International Law students with insights and tips about a career in the field of international business law. At Craig's suggestion, we structured the session as a conversation using the model of James Lipton's Inside the Actor's Studio. His personal stories were instructive, entertaining, and inspiring."
Commenting about his on campus experience, Chapman said “I really appreciate the opportunity afforded by Amy Casner and Professor Scharf to reconnect with the law school, its students and its professors and to participate in a class full of bright, inquisitive and internationally focused students. I hope my practical advice during and after class was as useful to the students as the class and my visit to the law school were enjoyable for me.”

Case is on the rise.
We are one of the only law schools in the country to have experienced any rise in median LSATs last year, and ours rose a whopping 2 points. Our university, ranked #37th by U.S. News & World Report, is attracting record numbers of applicants.
