Law school hires several new legal scholars
We are extremely pleased to report several faculty appointments and hires. Our newest additions to the faculty include distinguished legal scholars: Juscelino Colares, Avi Cover, Charles Korsmo and Ruqaiijah Yearby. Andrew Pollis, a current professor in our Clinic, has also received an appointment as Assistant Professor of Law.
Juscelino Colares
Juscelino Colares has been appointed Professor of Law with tenure, and will be teaching among other courses, Civil Procedure and international trade and business-related courses. Professor Colares comes to us from Syracuse University School of Law, where he was a tenured professor. Professor Colares received his LL.B. from the University of Brasilia/Federal University of Ceara in Brazil, his M.A. and Ph.D. from University of Tennessee, and his J.D. from Cornell Law School. He has worked as an Associate for Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP, and was a judicial clerk for the President of the Constitutional Council in Paris, France.
Avidan Cover
Avidan Cover has been appointed Assistant Professor of Law in the Clinic on the tenure track. A graduate of Princeton University and Cornell Law School, he worked at the New York City Law Department World Trade Center Unit, as Assistant Corporation Counsel; Human Rights First, Law and Security Program as Senior Counsel; and most recently at Seton Hall University School of Law, Center for Social Justice as Practitioner in Residence/Visiting Assistant Clinical Professor.
Charles Korsmo
Charles Korsmo has been appointed Assistant Professor of Law and will be teaching Business Associations and other business-related courses. Professor Korsmo comes to us from Brooklyn Law School, where he has been a Visiting Assistant Professor of Law since 2009, teaching Torts and Land-Use Controls. A graduate of MIT and Yale Law School, he was an Associate at Sullivan and Cromwell, and has served at the House Select Committee on Homeland Security, the House Policy Committee, and the US Environmental Protection Agency, and clerked on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Andrew Pollis
Andrew Pollis has been appointed Assistant Professor of Law in the Clinic on the tenure track. Professor Pollis has been a visiting Assistant Professor at CWRU since 2008. He recently served as co-counsel in a case before the U.S. Supreme Court. Professor Pollis received his A.B. from Brown University and his J.D. from Harvard. Before coming to CWRU, he was litigation partner at Hahn Loeser & Parks.
Ruqaiijah Yearby
Ruqaiijah Yearby has been appointed Professor of Law with tenure, and will be teaching among other courses, law and medicine-related courses. Professor Yearby comes to us from SUNY Buffalo, where she directed the Health Law Concentration and two health law-related dual degree programs. She received her B.S. from University of Michigan, her M.P.H. in Health Policy & Management from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, and her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. She taught previously at Loyola University of Chicago School of Law, worked for the Chicago law firm of Duane Morris, served as an Assistant Regional Counsel at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and did a judicial clerkship on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
