Moot court success at the School of Law
School of Law moot court teams posted outstanding results at competitions around the U. S. and Canada this year.
The Jessup International Law Moot Court Team won the Midwest Super Regional Competition in Chicago in February and then went on to win several awards at the White and Case International rounds in Washington, DC in March. This is the fourth year out of the past five that CWRU's team won the Midwest Regionals. In DC, CWRU finished the Preliminary Rounds ranked second in the world, and then went on to beat the Russian Academy of Justice before dropping a close round in the Octa-Finals to Universidad de Buenos Aires. Case Western Reserve also won the award for the Fifth Best Brief in the World, and three members of the CWRU team won "top twenty speaker awards." This year a record 620 law schools entered the world-wide competition. In 2008, the Case team won the World Championship.
The National Moot Court Team advanced through preliminary competition to the finals in New York City, where they advanced to the “sweet 16 round,” defeating 12 of the other law schools and ultimately winning on orals. Over 190 law schools from across the country competed in this national competition.
The UNC Craven Competition Team advanced to the final round, losing narrowly to Fordham University Law School. This invitational constitutional law competition draws teams from across the country; this year's tournament included teams from Duke University, Boston College, and Pepperdine University law school.
The Niagara International Moot Court Team advanced to the Quarterfinal Round of the International Competition in Toronto, Canada. Two School of Law students were jointly named "Best Overall Individual Advocate" in the international competition.
The school's First Amendment Moot Court Team made it to the quarterfinal round and also took home the award for second best brief. The competition, sponsored by the First Amendment Center and Vanderbilt University Law School, hosted 34 teams from across the country.
The ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition Team advanced to the “Sweet 16” and was seeded third, with a 3-0 record. Thirty-two schools participated in the competition.
Congratulations to everyone who competed, coordinated and coached these successful teams!

Footnote:
Case is on the rise.
We are one of the only law schools in the country to have experienced any rise in median LSATs last year, and ours rose a whopping 2 points. Our university, ranked #37th by U.S. News & World Report, is attracting record numbers of applicants.
