USPTO Accepts School of Law into Pilot Program
Case Western Reserve University School of Law has been accepted into the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Patent Law School Clinic Certification Pilot Program. The Selection Committee chose schools with the greatest potential for success based on an excellent IP curriculum, effective outreach to the community, and comprehensive client services.
Intellectual Property Entrepreneurship Clinic
The Center for LTA offers the IP Entrepreneurship Clinic, in which students represent start-up companies as they develop their plans to commercialize their technology. The clinic will be based out of the Shaker LaunchHouse or other local incubator sites. In particular, students will focus on IP issues that start-ups face, such as assistance in securing patent rights, which may include drafting patent applications; patent and know-how licensing and related transactional work; securing trademark rights; and general counseling related to building a strategic position in a given competitive space.

Law student Joel Simon has been working with some of Northeast Ohio's most determined entrepreneurs. His recent work is part of an experiential learning opportunity that served as a precursor to an intellectual property law clinic that began in January 2012.
